In this San Diego landscape design, the client requested an open and clean style to complement their simultaneously built Spanish contemporary home. The expansive outdoor kitchen and living space is perfect for hosting large gatherings for friends and family. It comes resplendent with a luxurious pool, waterfall, spa, fire feature, and outdoor kitchen.
To create a more private entrance, a galvanized fence was installed with an electric gate for cars. The driveway is an integral colored concrete surrounded by roses, agave, and sage varieties. Custom built wooden enclosures disguise the trash receptacles.
In the backyard, a transition wall, fire feature, and other design elements were strategically placed to create more usable space, as well as to contain the slope and hillside. To break up the hardscape design, the triad of the pool, kitchen, then fire feature is a perfect artistic backdrop for memory making. The fire feature with floating bench for ambient lighting was poured in place by grounding grey concrete.
The pool design is smartly equipped with a baja shelf for sunbathing and a sleek spa that is flush with the water. The sparkling cobalt backsplash of the pool lip reflects a starry night sky, contrasted strongly against the pure white textured tile of the dual waterfall basin and spillway. The striking white of the hardscape accentuates the deep greens of the privacy screening plants, hedges, and a lush sodded turf.
The dual luminescent blues of the pool and the flames of the fire feature serve as bookends to the cozy gathering space of the outdoor grill and seating area. This cooking nook, equipped with lighting, fans, sink, BBQ, fridge, and storage drawers – all accented by a beautifully redone Ipe hardwood ceiling – is truly the exemplar of outdoor living in luxury.
No matter what the weather, strategic outdoor lighting and the large covered structure of the kitchen will ensure that there is no interruption of fun or activity.
